The Kia Sportage, pronounced Spor’tij in the United States and Spor’tahj in French-speaking countries (including Canada) is Kia’s compact SUV . Originally, it was a mini SUV, but the second generation Sportage is a compact crossover SUV.

Recent Changes [ ]
- The 2010 Geneva Motor Show will play host to the debut of the Third-generation Peter Schreyer-penned Sportage. Sharing the same platform as the Hyundai Tucson, the new Sportage will have larger overall dimensions than previous iterations. It is also expected to feature the same powertrain options as the Tucson (and its European tag, iX35). [1]
- After a two year hiatus from Kia’s lineup, the Sportage returned in 2005 on a new platform. Since then, it has undergone few changes, and this remains true for the 2007 model year, in which it receives minimal exterior updates.
- For 2008, the Sportage recieves a minor facelift.
- The 2009 Sportage is set to receive a major facelift. Debuting at the 2008 London Motor Show, the new Sportage features a new front bumper clip with cleaner, better integrated air scoops and uncluttered appearance and revised headlights. Round back, the SUV has a new rear bumper clip as well as revised taillamps.
- For 2009, the Sportage receives another minor facelift and the option of a 2.0 litre Diesel engine.[2]
Styles and Major Options [ ]
The 2007 Sportage comes in three trims: the LX, LX V6, and the EX V6. The base LX is powered by a 2.0L 140hp I-4 engine, and the two V6 trims, as their names indicate, are powered by the same 2.7L 173hp V6 engine. Also, while the LX comes standard with a 5-speed manual transmission w/OD, the two V6 trims are equipped with a 4-speed Sportmatic automatic transmission. All trims are available in either automatic full-time four wheel drive or the standard front wheel drive. For a list of safety options, see the Safety section below. Other standout features on the Sportage include:

- 6-speaker AM/FM/MP3/CD audio system
- Tilt steering wheel
- Power windows, locks, mirrors
The SL series Sportage was released to Asian and European markets in April 2010, the North and Central American markets in August 2010, and the Australian market in October 2010, for the 2011 model year. Two engines were available, a 2.0-liter Hyundai R diesel engine with 184 hp (137 kW), and a 2.0-liter Theta T-GDI gasoline engine. In China, it was released by Dongfeng Yueda Kia in October 2010 and called the Sportage R, and was to be built and marketed alongside the previous generation rather than as a replacement for it.
The Sportage won the 2011 Car of the Year (originally «Auto roku 2011 na Slovensku») in Slovakia and «Truck of the Year» nomination of International Car of the Year. It was top of the JD Power Survey for 2012, the only car in the survey to score five stars across all categories, from mechanical reliability to ownership costs and the dealer experience. In South Africa, it took the 2013 Standard Bank People’s Wheels Award for «SUVs and Crossovers – City & Suburban».
Facelift [ ]
The third generation received a facelift for the 2014 model year that included a new grille with a redesigned Kia logo, LED tail lights and redesigned alloy wheels.[
